Part of my ‘Spirited Women’ series of prints, 'The Goddess Yemayá depicts one of the seven African Powers – the Mother of the Ocean. Here she floats in the depths, surrounded by orchids and her spirit animal, the eel. In the Yoruba language, Yemayá’s name means “mother of the fish.” One of the stories is that Yemayá’s own water broke over the primordial Earth. From this, the rivers and seas, and life itself began.
Designed, illustrated and entirely hand painted in traditional mixed media.
Paper: Archival, no-acid, giclée printed.
Fits beautifully into standard frame sizes.
